Mets Player Performance Meter: Position Players, Week 18

A review of the Mets' hitters over the past week.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

After scoring runs at a very good clip for a little while, the Mets' lineup struggled against not-so-great starting pitching over the weekend against the Pirates. In total, this was not a disastrous week, but there were certainly still some imperfections on the offensive side of the game. Lucas Duda's near-complete absence from the lineup didn't help. And if you're wondering where Kevin Plawecki went, he's back in Las Vegas, presumably to get at-bats, while Anthony Recker has been summoned back to the big leagues.

Player Last Week This Week Comment
Yoenis Cespdes, OF While he had just a .281 OBP, Cespedes made up for it with a couple of home runs and a .516 SLG in total for the week.
Michael Conforto, LF Conforto’s week included a game-tying two-run home run, and he hit .250/.357/.583 overall. That’ll play.
Michael Cuddyer, LF Cuddyer had some hits in first two games back from the disabled list, but when your wRC+ matches your uniform number—23 in this case—that’s almost always a bad thing.
Travis d’Arnaud, C d’Arnaud hadn’t looked quite right as a hitter since coming off the disabled list, but he looked just fine this week. He hit a couple of home runs with a .286/.375/.619 line.
Lucas Duda, 1B Duda only made five plate appearances as he dealt with back stiffness that kept him out for most of the week. He had a .400 OBP when he played.
Wilmer Flores, SS Flores didn’t have the worst week among Mets hitters, but it wasn’t a great one.
Curtis Granderson, RF Granderson had been the team’s best hitter for a long stretch, but in a week that saw the Mets face a bunch of left-handed starting pitchers, he struggled: .087/.207/.261.
Kelly Johnson, IF/OF In 16 plate appearances, Johnson hit .257/.313/.667, and like Cespedes, that SLG makes up for the OBP.
Juan Lagares, CF Lagares followed up a good week at the plate with an even better one. He hit .400/.400/.700 with a 210 wRC+ in 20 plate appearances.
Daniel Murphy, 2B/3B Murphy had been on a nice run, but he had only a .571 OPS for the week.
Anthony Recker, C -- In six plate appearances, Recker had just a 66 wRC+.
Ruben Tejada, SS Tejada didn’t have a great week at the plate, though the standards at shortstop in 2015 are very low.
Juan Uribe, 3B Uribe hit another impressive home run, but he wound up with just a 38 wRC+ in total this week.
David Wright, 3B Wright’s rehab assignment has continued, and he could be looking at rejoining the Mets this weekend in Colorado if things keep going well.
