This Week in Mets Quotes: Terry Collins trusts his bullpen, Cespedes is the Bestedes

Lots of interesting, funny, idiotic, and insightful things were said by the Mets—and about them—recently. Here are some of our favorites.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

But how does it compare to buying a Ford truck?

"I feel good. This is probably the best I've felt -- knock on wood -- in my career. So I'm pretty happy how I feel right now. Hopefully, I don't have an innings limit. But I'm not sure." -Jacob deGrom [Newsday]

Key to fixing the bullpen: get worse starting pitchers.

"[The pitch] was exactly where I wanted it. Those guys, unfortunately they have seen [Noah] Syndergaard and [Jacob] deGrom, so my fastball up probably didn’t seem like their fastball up." -Carlos Torres [New York Post]

Terry added, ‘except when they don’t.’

"The bullpen has pitched very good. We’ve still got a lot of confidence in them and you get the matchups you want to have and they get the outs you need to get." -Terry Collins [New York Post]

Yeah but…if…uh…you can’t…oh forget it, I give up.

"I’m not going to use them except in the situation they are supposed to be used. In a tie game in the eighth inning, you have to get to the ninth inning and Tyler [Clippard] did that. We’re not going to use this guy in the seventh inning. He’s going to pitch the eighth and we’re going to find somebody to bridge that gap." -Terry Collins [New York Post]

Cool story, bro.

"I talked to Dave [Wright] today about some stuff." -Terry Collins [Newsday]

Weird. I was, too.

"I was happy because we won the game." -Jeurys Familia [Newsday]

Got to find that silver lining…

"It would have [been a disappointing series against the Pirates] if they were 20-50. They’re not. They’re a good team. We played good. We had a bad day, came out of the rain delay, we didn’t play good. We’re tired right now. … We had a terrible two innings in a row in a good weekend. We played very good baseball until the seventh inning today." -Terry Collins [New York Post]

…no matter how slim it is.

"Yeah, it's heartbreaking. But you know what? We battled out there. We had a chance to win both games." -Jon Niese [Newsday]

Spoiler alert: Niese may have overestimated our chances.

"The last two games just goes to show you what kind of teams both of us are. I like our chances [Sunday] with Harvey on the mound." -Jon Niese [Newsday]

Put the 1 and 4 week behind you and cowboy up with Tyler.

"We’ve made up so much ground so fast on [the Nationals], and now we’re trying to separate ourselves a bit. They know they’re in for it." -Tyler Clippard [New York Times]

HOW IS THIS NOT A DUDA QUOTE?

"I didn't think I'd be in the big leagues this long. So yeah, it seems pretty weird." -Daniel Murphy [New York Daily News]

Think you can’t like Yoenis Cespedes more; well I’ve got three quotes for you:

Cespedes regarding his goal for the season.

"Stay healthy so I can continue helping this team, and then hopefully make it to the World Series and win it." -Yoenis Cespedes [New York Post]

Cespedes regarding his first bat.

"This story is what my mom tells me, I don’t know this, but she grabbed a machete and took some wood off of a tree, and turned it into some sort of stick that she says was a bat." -Yoenis Cespedes [New York Post]

Cespedes regarding his son.

"He’s a very happy, hyper boy. He’s always got a ball or a bat or he’s moving around doing something. I haven’t seen him in four years. It’s a little difficult because I can only speak to him via phone, I can’t ever see him on a camera or anything. And he’s kind of at that age where his mom kind of had to remind him to talk on the phone because he doesn’t really say much when we speak. This year I’m gonna try to do even the impossible to try to bring him [from Yara, Cuba]. It’s not as easy as just going and getting a visa and bringing him, so I don’t know what it entails, but I’m willing to do it." -Yoenis Cespedes [New York Post]

SiteBot FacePalm of the Week

"Hopefully this phantom injury lingers because I don’t want parnell anywhere near the team down the stretch. Performance notwithstanding, do people still get annoyed with parnell for the whole rookie hazing thing with noah before the season? because it still gets me salty." -xxdxpxx

AA Qoute of the Week

"So who goes down when David gets back?" -Pegasus Snappers

"All the teams in our path" -Reflect
