Do not adjust your internets, the Mets actually beat the Rockies for the second straight night by the same ridiculous score of 14-9. This time they torched Colorado starter Chris Rusin for eleven runs and twelve hits in just two innings and jumped out to a 14-3 lead. Jon Niese gave up seven runs on eleven hits in 5.1 innings and "won" the game for the Mets.
The Mets' eleven-run lead shrunk to 14-9 with Eric O'Flaherty and Carlos Torres giving up a couple of runs after Niese left the game, but Tyler Clippard and Jeurys Familia each pitched hitless frames to preserve the victory.
The Mets pounded out 21 hits overall and everyone in the starting lineup had at least two hits except for Niese, who had to settle for just a two-run single in the third. Michael Cuddyer, who played his home games at Coors Field the last three seasons, was the only starter without a run batted in.
The Nationals beat the Brewers 6-1 so the Mets maintain their five-game lead in the National League East. The series in Colorado wraps up tomorrow at 4:10 PM EDT when Logan Verrett makes a spot start against David Hale, he of the 6.13 ERA in 54 innings this season.
