Final Score: Mets 12, Marlins 1—Filet-o-fish

The Met bats stayed hot in the first of three games in Miami.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The newly-powerful Mets offense came out swinging, pounding the Marlins for fifteen hits in a 12-1 win. Michael Conforto hit his first major league home run off of Marlins starter Tom Koehler in the second inning. Yoenis Cespedes had his first big day as a Met, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI, narrowly missing a home run on two of those doubles. Mets starter Bartolo Colon had a great bounce-back effort, limiting the Marlins to one run over eight innings and striking out five. To make the day even better, the Nationals lost to the Diamondbacks by a score of 6-4, meaning the Mets are now in sole possession of first place in the division.

Things ended on a sour note when Toma Talis's bat flew into the stands and struck a fan. Everyone wishes him or her the best and hopes any injuries are not serious.
