Since the acquisitions of Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson, and Yoenis Cespedes, and the call-up of Michael Conforto, the Mets have become a much deeper team. Earlier in the season, their bench consisted of Quadruple-A players like Danny Muno, Eric Campbell, and Darrell Ceciliani. Now, on any given night the team can call on veterans like Uribe, Johnson, and Michael Cuddyer for important late-game at-bats.
For this week's Mind Boggler, we're testing your knowledge of former bench players and asking you to name every Met with at least 15 single-season pinch hits.
Mets with at least 15 pinch hits in a season.
This year, the Mets have five players tied for the team lead with three pinch hits apiece. Those players are Muno, Campbell, Ceciliani, Cuddyer, and Juan Lagares.
Cuddyer hit a big pinch-hit two-run single to give the Mets the lead over the Phillies last Tuesday night. He also has a very impressive career as a pinch hitter, hitting .352/.435/.574 with two home runs, 15 RBI, and four doubles in 62 plate appearances. In the games that he doesn't start, Cuddyer could be a useful piece off of the Mets' bench going forward.
Good luck, and remember to post your time and score in the comments!
