This Week in Mets Quotes: The Mets get new Heels, Wheeler wants to be a Met too

Lots of interesting, funny, idiotic, and insightful things were said by the Mets—and about them—recently. Here are some of our favorites.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

Ask and you shall receive.

"WE WANT FIRST PLACE!" -Mets Fans at Citi Field Sunday Night [Grantland]

I’m feeling something towards my fellow Mets fan. Is it…pride?

"New York fans take a lot of criticism for being tough. They take a lot of heat about how hard they are. What they did for Wilmer Flores tonight, you’re not going to find in a lot of places." -Terry Collins [New York Post]

I’m with FloreSS.

"They support me 100 percent and I’m with them, too." -Wilmer Flores [New York Times]

Personally, I thought Uribe’s swing was believable but what does he think?

"Unbelievable swing. But for me, it's more important to me to win the game." -Juan Uribe on his 9th HR of the year [Mets]

Editor’s Note: At time of writing, the last part of this statement is no longer true.

"Their fans are gonna show up. They’re excited about their team this year. We’re still in first place, doing our thing." -Bryce Harper [Washington Post]

*In JR’s voice* That’s Harper’s Music!

"I don't give a crap what the Mets are doing." -Bryce Harper [ESPN]

*In JR’s voice* And here comes Werth to pile it on the Mets, won’t someone put a stop to this…

"I think it's great. It's been a long time since we've come to play the Mets and had a packed stadium." -Jayson Werth [ESPN]

*In JR’s voice* It can’t be! Is that Larry running down the ramp, I thought he was retired!

/Larry hits Werth with a chair.

/Larry hits Harper with a chair.

/Mets fans don’t know whether to cheer or boo.

/End Scene.

"One team I would not wanna play the rest of the season.......the New York Mets!! They got some fellas that can flat out....BRING IT!!!" -Chipper Jones [Twitter]

Warning, by Duda’s standards, his response to Terry’s challenge is downright NSFW.

"Listen, we've got to start producing some runs, or we've got to find somebody else." -Terry Collins [ESPN]

"I got it." -Lucas Duda [ESPN]

Duda SmackTalk.

"The fans have been great all year ... but the last two days have been ridiculous. The trades (for Cespedes, Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson and Tyler Clippard) have given a shot of energy to us. ... We think we have a shot." -Lucas Duda [New York Daily News]

This.

"It’s so much fun to be a Met right now." -Noah Syndergaard [New York Daily News]

Good for TC, I’ve been married only a year and I can’t say the same.

"I’ve seen a lot of things. I’ve never experienced the emotional roller coaster we went through these past 10 days at home." -Terry Collins [New York Post]

Can Wheeler haz standing ovation.

"I told [Sandy Alderson during an impromptu phone call] that I know it's a business and he has a job to do, but I'd really like to be here because of what's about to happen. I've been here a couple of years and want to see it through. I know that doesn't happen every day and I was nervous about doing it. But I figured it was the best way to get it across that I wanted to stay and be a part of this team's winning future." -Zack Wheeler [Newsday]

Shh, no one let him know about the offense.

"I’m very flattered that the Mets wanted to give me this opportunity. I’ve heard all about the pitching that the Mets have. It’s great pitching. I’ve heard about the bullpen. I don’t know much else because I’ve been in the AL the entire time, but I’m looking forward to learning more about it." -Yoenis Cespedes [New York Daily News]

The atmosphere it totally like this all the time, why don’t you go ahead and sign a discounted extension.

"This is something I can’t control, I don’t know what the front office is thinking about, but, from what I have seen so far, I would love for everything to work out and I stay with the Mets for a long, long time, because I like the atmosphere." -Yoenis Cespedes [New York Daily News]

Just a reminder that Dan Warthen might be good at his job.

"Dan [Warthen] taught me a lot. He realizes right away whenever I’m starting to get off mechanic-wise, or flying open, and he’ll even tell me during the game. That way, the next inning I’ll go out and try to make the adjustment — that seems to work out a lot." -Jacob deGrom [Grantland]

I’d rather be worrying about a decline in UZR or ISO rather than if he’ll play again.

"I'd rather be talked to like a baseball player, not a patient at a therapy clinic." -David Wright [MLB]

And this is why we come back season after season.

"It’s been a pretty tumultuous time in Mets Land. And then the excitement level in the stadium [Saturday] was something I’d never seen before. This could all come crashing down tonight, or tomorrow. But so far, it’s all been crazy to watch." -Sandy Alderson [Grantland]

SiteBot FacePalm of the Week

"I guess Cuddyer is an improvement over Campbell. But I am guessing his "Veteran Presents" leads TC to start him in Left, Cespedes in CF, and Granderson in RF at all times." -FarookAhmed04
