The Mets dropped the rubber game of a three-game set to the Marlins tonight, 6-0. New York managed only 3 hits on the evening, and the shutout snapped a string of 16 consecutive games where they had scored at least 3 runs. Their lead over the Nationals shrinks to 7.5 games as Washington completed a blowout win over Philadelphia.
Starter Bartolo Colon went five and two-thirds innings, giving up a pair of solo home runs, seven hits total, two walks and three earned runs. Tyler Clippard also gave up a solo homer.
Sean Gilmartin let two inherited runners score in the ninth on a pair of hits by lefties to essentially put the game out of reach.
David Wright had two hits, but when the Mets posed the only thing resembling a threat in the eighth when they got two aboard on walks, the Captain grounded out to end it.
The Mets' final record against the Marlins in 2015 is in the ledger at 11 wins and 8 losses. The Yankees visit Citi Field next starting on Friday.
