Final Score: Mets 4, Braves 0—Mets shut down the Braves

Relax Mets fans, the sky is not falling.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Jon Niese pitched six strong innings as the Mets bounced back with a 4-0 victory over the Braves. Michael Conforto hit another line drive home run to the opposite field, and Daniel Murphy supplied some late insurance with a two-run double in the seventh. Niese set down the first eight men to face him, all on ground balls, and ended his night after six innings with two strikeouts and two walks. The Mets' late-inning combo of Addison Reed, Tyler Clippard, and Jeurys Familia finished off the last three innings with no issue.

The Nationals were rained out today, so the Mets only lowered their magic number to seven (Jose Reyes). The division lead currently sits at 6.5 with 12 games to play. Logan Verrett takes the mound in place of Jacob deGrom tomorrow for the second game against the Braves.
