Final Score: Phillies 7, Mets 5—Ugly baseball

The Mets lost a bad game of baseball in Philadelphia.

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost to the Phililes in a four-hour game that felt like it took even longer. Despite scoring five runs in the first inning, all of them against Philadelphia starter Alec Asher, who lasted just two-thirds of an inning. But the Mets didn't score again in the game, Logan Verrett gave up three runs in his start, and eight Mets relief pitchers—eight!—combined to allowed three more runs. The game featured a ton of walks, wild pitches, and hit-by-pitches.

More importantly than any of that, Yoenis Cespedes was hit on the left hand by a pitch in the third inning and left the immediately. But x-rays came back negative, and he only has contusions on two of his fingers on his left hand. Crisis averted.
