Final Score: Marlins 6, Mets 5—Bullpen bites Mets in tough loss

The Mets came back a couple of time but lost in extras.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost to the Marlins 6-5 in eleven innings. Jacob deGrom wasn't at his best and gave up three runs in six innings with four strikeouts and no walks. The Mets didn't score before he gave up those runs, but they scored twice in the sixth and took the lead in the seventh on a two-run Yoenis Cespedes home run.

That lead was short-lived, though, as Sean Gilmartin and Addison Reed combined to give up two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The Mets tied the game on a two-out Kelly Johnson single in the ninth, but they eventually lost in the eleventh with Eric O'Flaherty giving up a game-winning double down the first base line to right-handed hitter Martin Prado.

The Nationals beat the Braves, too, reducing the Mets' division lead to five games.
