Mets' spring training report dates released

Pitchers and catchers report to camp on February 17.

Mets pitchers and catchers will report to spring training on February 17 and have their first workout on February 19, while position players are scheduled to report on February 24 and have their first workout on February 26. Major League Baseball released the dates for all thirty of its teams earlier this afternoon.

Compared to the rest of the league, Mets pitchers and catchers are getting started on the early side. The position players have one of the latest first workout days in the league, as only the Twins' full squad is starting camp later than the Mets.

The Mets will begin their Grapefruit League schedule the following week, with a road game against the Nationals on Thursday, March 3. They'll play their first home spring training game in Port St. Lucie on Friday, March 4, against the Marlins at 1:10 PM. The real season begins on Sunday, April 3, as the Mets visit the Royals for a two-game series to begin the 2016 season.
