Meet the Mets
It's real and it's spectacular! Yoenis Cespedes has re-signed with the Mets for a reported 3 years and $75 million! Mets fans on Twitter were understandably freaking out (in a positive way) about the deal. There are plenty of stats you should know about Cespedes and his time with the Mets. Mike Vaccaro writes that with this move, the Mets are no longer a laughingstock. Jay Jaffe says the price is favorable for the Mets. The signing will be a big bet against fielding, writes Dave Cameron.
Lucas Duda and Jenrry Mejia also agreed to deals, avoiding arbitration.
It wasn't all good news for Mets players, as Carlos Torres was given his walking papers to make room for Antonio Bastardo on the 40-man roster. Torres had a few solid seasons as a rubber armed workhorse for the Mets.
This will get overshadowed by the Cespedes news but the Mets added infielder Niuman Romero on a minor league deal, likely as Binghamton/Las Vegas depth. Also, Danny Muno gets an invite to big league camp.
Get to know Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud!
