Mets will retire Mike Piazza's number on July 30

The ceremony is part of 'Mike Piazza Weekend.'

The Mets have announced that the weekend of July 29-31 will be "Mike Piazza Weekend" at Citi Field. The centerpiece of that weekend will be the retirement of Piazza's #31 at a special ceremony on July 30. The festivities take place the weekend after Piazza's Hall of Fame induction ceremony on July 24.

Piazza will become only the second player, and fourth person overall, to have his number retired by the Mets. Tom Seaver is the lone player with a retired number (#41), and until Piazza's July Hall of Fame induction, the only player to enter Cooperstown as a Met. Managers Casey Stengel (#37) and Gil Hodges (#14) are the other two with retired Mets numbers, although the team also displays the name 'Shea' next to the retired numbers, honoring William A. Shea, as well as the stadium that bore his name. And, like all teams, Jackie Robinson's #42 is retired by the Mets.

"Mike Piazza Weekend" will also feature a replica jersey giveaway to all fans on Friday, July 29, and a Mike Piazza bobblehead giveaway on Sunday, July 31. Tickets for all three games are on sale, of course.
