This evening, the Baseball Hall of Fame will announce the results of its annual election. MLB Network and MLB.com will start broadcasting coverage at 3:00 PM EST, but the announcement itself is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

Former Mets catcher Mike Piazza, who has already been inducted into the team's Hall of Fame and could be the first player since Tom Seaver to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame with a Mets cap, has 86.3 percent of the public votes tallied by @NotMrTibbs at the time of this writing. A player needs to get 75 percent of the votes from eligible members of the Baseball Writers Association of America to gain election to the Hall of Fame.

A beloved figure among Mets fans, Piazza took to Twitter on Tuesday to express his gratitude. Widely considered the greatest-hitting catcher of all time, Piazza hit .308/.377/.545 with 427 home runs and a 142 OPS+ over the course of his career, the grand majority of which he spent with the Dodgers and Mets.
