Meet the Mets
And so the offseason begins!
The Mets have many players who are arbitration eligible next season including pitchers Addison Reed and Matt Harvey. Both are projected to get nice pay raises in 2017.
Travis d’Arnaud had a disappointing season in 2016 and may no longer be the Mets’ number one catcher.
Even with Yoenis Cespedes presumably opting out of his contract, the Mets have not engaged in contract talks with him.
Tim Tebow has not yet returned to action in the Arizona Fall League after sustaining an injury Monday.
The Mets are seeking someone from outside the organization to take over the vacant managerial position in Las Vegas.
Jeurys Familia’s court date was postponed to November 10, and those closest to him were shocked when the news about the arrest first broke. After the legal issues are settled, a suspension from Major League Baseball is likely.
Around the NL East
Great news for Braves reliever Matt Marksberry, who continues to improve from a scary health complication. The Mariners claimed Braves pitcher Ryan Weber off waivers. Atlanta will be heading in a different direction when it comes to their coaching staff.
The Marlins have a couple of pitchers they might target in the offseason. Is it time for them to trade Giancarlo Stanton?
The Phillies hired Matt Stairs as their hitting coach. Pitcher Aaron Nola has fully recovered from the injury he sustained during the season.
The Nationals might be interested in bringing back closer Mark Melancon.
Around the Majors
The Cubs are the 2016 World Series Champions after an epic Game 7, and Ben Zobrist was named MVP.
There wasn’t any social media the last time the Cubs won the World Series, so naturally this time Twitter capitalized on this historic event.
Cubs fan Bill Murray was overjoyed after their victory.
The drought continues however, for the Cleveland Indians who blew a 3-1 series lead.
Alex Rodriguez has excelled in his new role during the postseason.
Yesterday at AA
Aaron Yorke covered Jim Henderson and Eric Campbell being removed from the 40-man roster.
Greg Karam wrote about the Mets pitching prospects.
Steve Sypa looked back on the Binghamton Mets 2016 season.
