The Mets have announced player report dates for spring training in 2017. Pitchers and catchers will report on February 12, while position players will report for duty on February 17.

The dates are a bit earlier than usual because of the World Baseball Classic, which is being held in various locations from March 9-22. That allows players more time training and conditioning in camp before departing to compete in the tournament. While team rosters have not been released for the Classic, Noah Syndergaard has declined his invitation, noting that he is choosing to focus on the upcoming 2017 season.

In November, the Mets made public plans to keep their spring training facility in Port St. Lucie’s Tradition Field, also committing to $55 million dollars in upgrades to stadium. Upgrades will include a brand new entrance, practice field, and a walkway around the outfield berm area.

The Mets open their exhibition schedule on February 24 against the Boston Red Sox.
