The Mets neiether selected nor lost any players in the major league phase of the Rule 5 draft this morning. During the minor league phase, the Mariners swiped left-handed pitcher Paul Paez, and the Angels took left-handed pitcher Adrian Almeida.

The 24-year-old Paez split time between St. Lucie and Binghamton last season. In 36 innings out of the bullpen in High-A St. Lucie, Paez posted a 1.00 ERA with 28 strikeouts. But when his numbers spiked in Binghamton, with a 9.15 ERA in 19.2 innings. He doesn’t throw hard but might be an interesting pitcher to watch.t.

Almeida, a 21-year-old, spent most of his season in Kingsport, but he was promoted to Low-A Brooklyn at the end of the season. An even 6-feet tall, he throws hard but walked 5.9 batters per nine this year and has walked 6.1 per nine in his minor league career. In total, he had a 7.03 ERA in 24.1 innings this year.
