Matt Harvey won't rule out contract extension with Mets

Perhaps there's a non-zero chance Harvey would sign an extension?

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Although popular opinion is that Matt Harvey will not sign a contract extension before he hits free agency in 2018, the Mets' ace isn't completely ruling it out. When asked about a potential extension today in Port St. Lucie, Harvey told reporters, "I think whatever comes up is going to come up. I’ve never shied away from it. I’ve never said I wouldn’t consider it, but I haven’t heard anything considering that."

This doesn't sound like an affirmation that Harvey wants to talk about an extension, but rather a slight departure from the notion that Harvey testing the open market was inevitable. Agent Scott Boras is notorious for pushing his clients toward free agency and maximizing their value on the open market and would figure to do so with one of his crown jewels.

Harvey also mentioned that his feels great after passing 200 innings for the first time in his career and said he would have no innings limit in 2016.
