Mets Morning News: Harvey and Syndergaard play "anything you can do, I can do better" with sliders

Your Saturday morning dose of New York Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes, and links.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Meet the Mets

Yoenis Cespedes rode up to Mets camp in his 5th car of the week, a tricked-out Jeep. Both ESPN and our friends at SB Nation planned out some cars for Cespedes to ride in on next. Cespedes' appetite includes a specific type of waffles.

Matt Harvey threw his first live bullpen of the spring and showed off a rejuvenated slider. Terry Collins was impressed by that and the late jump on Harvey's fastball, both of which were missing most of 2015. Sliders are all the rage in camp, as Noah Syndergaard has officially added one to his repertoire.

Zack Wheeler is set to throw off a mound today! Woo hoo! Jacob deGrom landed at the top of Fangraphs' list of the top contract extension candidates in baseball.

Despite having a contract, Ruben Tejada's future with the club is uncertain and could come down to need and the quality of his spring. In the meantime, Tejada spoke about the slide rule changes.

Michael Conforto is making quite an impression on Terry Collins this spring. He also put an impression on some baseballs that he sent over the fence during BP.

Collins is preaching that the Mets embrace being the hunted team.

Why do some Mets fans over hate Lucas Duda?

Around the Majors

The Mets and Yankees are both going to bat for New York's smokeless tobacco ban.

Given the Dexter Fowler madness, the Orioles are a weirdo team.

No, the Red Sox are not giving up on analytics, despite the quote from team owner John Henry.

What do the odds look like for each MLB division?

Brewers outfielder Brett Phillips has a weirdo laugh.

Padres players took pictures with puppies. Say this 5 times fast: Padres players puppy pictures.
