Mets injury update: Jacob deGrom throws again, and his son is doing better

It's all good news on the deGrom front today.

Following the Mets' win over Cleveland this afternoon, manager Terry Collins had a couple of good updates on Jacob deGrom.

First, deGrom and his wife Stacey might get to bring their newborn son home from the hospital as soon as tomorrow. deGrom is currently on emergency family medical leave because there had been complications with the couple's baby boy Jaxon. That's great news, and here's hoping things continue to good well for the deGrom family.

Second, deGrom threw another bullpen in Port St. Lucie today as he works his way back from a strained lat, and everything went well. He face hitters there on Tuesday. It seems safe to assume that if that session also goes well, deGrom would rejoin the Mets not long afterwards.

In his only start of the season so far, deGrom threw six very good innings against the Phillies in the Mets' home opener. He did so despite diminished velocity, as his fastball sat in the low-90s as it did in spring training. Perhaps he'll see that tick up a bit once the lat issue is behind him.
