Thanks in large part to a second-inning grand slam and fourth-inning solo home run from Curtis Granderson, the Mets beat the Braves tonight in the first of three games in Atlanta. Matt Harvey was neither dominant nor particularly sharp, but he got through five innings and allowed two runs. He struck out five and walked one, which makes for better peripherals than he had in any of his first three starts.
The Mets tacked on a run in the seventh, when Yoenis Cespedes doubled to score David Wright, who had doubled earlier in the inning. The Braves got one run in the bottom of the seventh, but that was it. After a rain delay in the middle of the eighth, the Mets wrapped up the victory.
Full recap to follow.
