Jacob deGrom is scheduled to start tomorrow's Mets home opener. His wife Stacey is pregnant, however, and the baby is due any day now.
If the baby arrives and deGrom needs to miss his start, Bartolo Colon will make the start in his place. If not, deGrom start on Friday, and he'll be followed by Bartolo Colon on Saturday, Matt Harvey on Sunday, and Steven Matz on Monday.
deGrom is coming off an excellent 2015 season in which he had a 2.54 ERA with 205 strikeouts and just 38 walks in 191 innings of regular season work. He had a 2.88 ERA with 29 strikeouts and 8 walks in 25 innings in the playoffs.
Last year, Colon had a 4.16 ERA with 136 strikeouts and 25 walks in 194.2 regular season innings. The Mets re-signed him to a one-year contract following the season, and the 42-year-old made his 2016 debut coming out of the bullpen in the Mets loss to the Royals on Sunday night.
