Final Score: Mets 7, Phillies 2—Mets fly their flag in home opener, pummel Phils

Baseball is back in Queens, and it's a good day to be a Mets fan.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Jacob deGrom went six strong innings while Neil Walker and Michael Conforto had big days at the plate as the Mets routed the Phillies in the Citi Field opener.

deGrom allowed only one run on five hits while striking out six before leaving after 76 pitches with what was called 'right Lat tightness'.  Updates on this and his soon-to-be baby's name will be the focus of this site's existence for the forseeable future.

The future of the Mets' offense looks to be in good shape as Conforto reached base three times, including a single and double, totaling three RBI and a run scored.  Walker had two run-scoring singles of his own, and also scored twice.  Lucas Duda reached base three times including a double and two runs scored, so the middle of the lineup did its job today, and all three of the above were in the middle of things during rallies in the sixth and seventh which blew the game open.

The second game of the series will see Bartolo Colon take the hill tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. against a team he beat four times in five tries last year.
