The Mets dropped the last of the four-game set in L.A., managing merely three hits against a dominant Clayton Kershaw in a 5-0 defeat. The Dodgers jumped on Bartolo Colon early, as they put up four runs in the first—with the big blow being a three-run homer by Yasmani Grandal. Chase Utley hit a solo shot in the second to pile on.
Everyone in the New York starting lineup struck out against Kershaw except Juan Lagares, as the Dodgers ace fanned 13 in a complete game shutout. He improved to 7-0 against the Mets in the regular season for his career.
With the loss, the Mets fell into a first-place tie with idle Washington. New York's record on this west coast trip now stands at 4-4 with a series in Colorado starting Friday night.
