Matt Harvey struggled mightily, the Mets' defense faltered in a big way, and the Mets lost to the Nationals 9-1. It was about as ugly a game as you can get in what might have otherwise been an exciting matchup between the National League East's top two contenders.
In total, harvey gave up nine runs, six of which were earned, in two-and-two-thirds innings with a couple of strikeouts and a couple of walks. Stephen Strasburg was the complete opposite of Harvey, as he gave up just one run in six innings with ten strikeouts and one walk.
The Mets' bullpen didn't allow any runs in relief of Harvey, but the game was over well before they came into the equation.
