Steven Matz threw seven great innings, Michael Conforto hit a go-ahead two-run home run, and the Mets beat the Brewers 3-2 tonight at Citi Field. Matz struck out eight, walked none, and only allowed two runs, both of which scored on a first-inning home run by Chris Carter.
The Mets got one run back on a Rene Rivera ground out in the bottom of the second inning. They didn't score again until the sixth, but Michael Conforto hit a home run to left field to turn a one-run deficit into a one-run lead. And thanks to Matz's performance after that—plus clean innings by Addison Reed and Jeurys Familia—that was enough for the Mets to win the game.
