Bartolo was on and the offense woke up in D.C.

The Mets opened their second series with the Nationals last night effectively, beating Washington handily in a lopsided 7-1 win.

Bartolo Colon started for the Mets, and pitched far more effectively than he did against the Nats last week at Citi Field, throwing seven innings of one-run ball, while striking out two and walking two.

After giving up a first-inning run on a Ryan Zimmerman single, Colon got plenty of offensive help of his own. The Mets' bats woke up in the third inning, starting with a three-run home run by David Wright just over the left field wall off Nats starter Gio Gonzalez.

A few batters later, Asdrubal Cabrera chased home Yoenis Cespedes with a single the other way, past a diving Daniel Murphy.

Two innings later, with no one on base, Cespedes hit his major league leading 15th home run to dead center.

One batter later, Neil Walker hit a solo home run of his own to left field, giving the Mets a six-run lead that would never diminish.
