Despite the close final score, the Mets beat the Pirates handily 6-4 at Citi Field Thursday night. After dropping the opener of the series on Tuesday night, the Mets’ bats seems to have awoken with a vengeance.

Curtis Granderson hit a home run to lead off the bottom of the first, and the Mets never looked back. Home runs from Neil Walker and Michael Conforto in the third put the game out of reach early, allowing Bartolo Colon to make short work of the Pirates. Colon had a shutout until the eighth inning, when he gave up a solo home run to Matt Joyce and an RBI single to Josh Harrison. Addison Reed gave up a solo home run to Andrew McCutchen and a Jung Ho Kang double in the top of the ninth, before Jeurys Familia came in to save the game for the Mets, after letting an inherited run score.
