Final Score: Mets 2, Royals 1—Hansel Robles to the rescue

The bullpen came up big on Tuesday.

MLB: Kansas City Royals at New York Mets Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets defeated the Royals Tuesday by a score of 2-1. Bartolo Colon got the start in place of Noah Syndergaard, who was being given an extra day of rest. Colon unfortunately was struck by a line drive four pitches into the game and had to come out. The injury was diagnosed as a right thumb contusion.

Terry Collins went to Hansel Robles, who had been struggling mightily, but tonight Robles was up to the task. He pitched 3.2 innings and gave up one run that Erik Goeddel allowed to score. Goeddel was also strong in his two innings of work and the combined efforts of Jerry Blevins, Addison Reed, and Jeurys Familia kept the Royals off the board.

The Mets scored their two runs off solo home runs by Asdrubal Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes, which was enough to secure a 2-1 victory against the World Series champs.
