The Mets bounced back from their terrible series against Atlanta with a 2-1 victory against the Royals at Citi Field.

The game couldn’t have started any worse, with Bartolo Colon leaving after being hit by a ball, having thrown only four pitches. The Mets’ bullpen rose to the challenge, though, and the Amazins beat their World Series rivals 2-1.

Let’s start with the highlights.

Asdrubal Cabrera started off the action with a solo shot in the bottom of the first to put the Mets ahead. You can see ithere.

In the top of the first, Eric Hosmer nearly took off umpire John Hirschbeck’s head when his bat shattered.

Hansel Robles, called into surprise action, struck out six batters in just under four innings of work in relief of Bartolo.

Yoenis Cespedes crushed his 18th homer of the season to put the Mets ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fifth inning, the Mets presented the family of Mets media relations staff member Shannon Forde with a special championship belt to honor her memory. Forde died earlier this year after a long fight with breast cancer.

Keith Hernandez made a visit to Keith’s Grill and flipped some burgers for excited fans.

Hansel Robles, Yoenis Cespedes, and the newly returned Travis d’Arnaud discussed the Mets’ victory after the game.

Terry Collins discussed the great performance by the bullpen and Bartolo’s injury status after the game.

And that’s all folks!
