The Mets defeated the Braves 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel in Atlanta. Julio Teheran and Jacob deGrom matched zeroes for eight innings in a rematch of last Sunday’s game at Citi Field. Teheran picked up right where he left off and again held the Mets scoreless.
deGrom improved from his last outing and seemed to get stronger as the game went along. After he got out of a bases-loaded situation in the sixth, he cruised through the seventh and eighth innings where he didn’t allow a baserunner. He finished the night throwing eight splendid innings and striking out six.
It was up to the bullpens to keep the game tied, and for the Mets Terry Collins went to Addison Reed, who was looking for his own bounce-back performance. This time he was dominant and got the game into extra innings.
Collins then turned to former Brave Kelly Johnson to pinch-hit in the 11th. He finally put a run on the board when he hit a ball to right that just cleared the wall off former Met Dario Alvarez.
That left the game in Jeurys Familia’s hands, and he again pitched out of trouble with an inning-ending double play.
