Tonight's series opener between the Mets and Pirates in Pittsburgh has been postponed because of rain. What initially looked like scattered thunderstorms on the radar wound up delaying the game for an hour-and-a-half before the decision was made to postpone it. At the moment, no makeup date has been announced.
The Mets were slated to face former Met Jon Niese, who they traded to Pittsburgh for second baseman Neil Walker. The first series in this game will be Walker's first back in Pittsburgh, which is where he grew up, went to school, got drafted by the Pirates, and spent his entire major league career until this past offseason.
As for Niese, he's been very much himself in Pittsburgh despite the change of scenery. In eleven starts, he has a 4.36 ERA and 5.26 FIP for the Pirates.
Perhaps the city of Pittsburgh really just wanted to watch hockey tonight, as WOR's Chris Majkowski tweeted:
No game tonight. Rained out. Enjoy the hockey. Shut up Pierre.
