Final Score: Nationals 3, Mets 2—Mets lose again, end first half on a sour note

Daniel Murphy hit a home run and drove in two as the Mets lost again to the Nationals, this time by a score of 3-2.

With one out in the top of the first, Jayson Werth singled to right and Murphy blasted a two-run homer to put the Nationals up 2-0. It was his seventh home run and 21st RBI against the Mets this year, and at this point it looks as though the Mets would have been better off signing him as a free agent and launching him into space than having him sign with the Nats.

In the bottom of the first, Jose Reyes led off with his second home run as a Met, and two innings later he hit his third. In between the Nationals scratched out a run, and thus the game’s scoring was complete at 3-2 Washington. For the next six innings the Mets never even managed to put a runner in scoring position.

The Mets enter the All-Star break on a three-game losing streak and six games behind the Nationals in the NL East. They have injuries aplenty and many second-half questions to be answered.

Full recap to follow.
