The Mets don't have anyone participating in the event, but Major League Baseball's Home Run Derby takes place tonight in San Diego, one day ahead of the All-Star Game. The event starts at 8:00 PM EDT and can be seen on ESPN and MLB.com.

The eight hitters participating in the tournament-style format are:

Mark Trumbo
Todd Frazier
Adam Duvall
Robinson Cano
Giancarlo Stanton
Wil Myers
Carlos Gonzalez
Corey Seager

Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes, who was the star of the Home Run Derby back when it took place at Citi Field, has hit 21 home runs this year, but he had already ruled himself out of the event because of concerns about hurting his wrist before he strained his quad in the outfield on Friday night.

if Giancarlo Stanton is hitting batting practice baseballs nearly as well as he hit actual pitches in his series against the Mets last week—laser beam home runs traveling well over 400 feet—he'd be a hard player to beat.
