Final score: Mets 10, Cubs 2—Mets play home run derby, win easily

The Mets blew out the Cubs on Friday night and hit a bunch of home runs in the process.

MLB: Chicago Cubs at New York Mets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets manhandled the Cubs on Friday night at Citi Field and won 10-2. Brandon Nimmo hit the first home run of his major league career, Asdrubal Cabrera hit two home runs, and James Loney and Yoenis Cespedes each hit one.

On top of that, Jacob deGrom—who pitched before and after an hour-long rain delay—was very good. He struck out seven, walked one, and allowed just one run on a solo home run by Kris Bryant in his five innings. He pitched before and after the first of two long rain delays, but his night came to an end when the second delay began.

The Mets’ bullpen was mostly good from there. Jerry Blevins threw a scoreless inning, Hansel Robles gave up one run in one inning, and Seth Lugo made his major league debut and threw two scoreless innings to finish the game.
