2016 Mets draft profile: RHP Garrison Bryant

With their 37th selection in the 2016 draft (Round 36, Pick 1090), the Mets selected Garrison Bryant, a pitcher from Florida.

Name: Garrison Bryant
Born: Clearwater, Florida
Age: 18 (1/1998)
Height/Weight: 6'4"/190 lbs
Position: RHP
Bats/Throws: R/R
School: Clearwater High School (Clearwater, Florida)

A recent graduate of Clearwater High School, Garrison Bryant is a gifted athlete, standing out on the gridiron and on the diamond. He posted a 2.49 ERA in 70.1 innings with 80 strikeouts and 28 walks for the Clearwater Tornadoes in his senior year. With professional scouts for both MLB and NFL teams scouting him, Bryant needed to make a decision- honor his commitment to commit to the University of North Florida, or play baseball professionally? The right-hander elected to play baseball after being selected in the 2016 MLB draft.

Bryant throws from a high ¾ arm slot. He utilizes a high leg kick and tucks his body in slightly in his wind-up. His arm is loose, and his delivery is fluid, but the right-hander sometimes runs into control problems as he throws off his release point by falling off to the side. His fastball sits in the mid-80s with arm-side run. At 6'4", Bryant is lean and projectable, and he is all but guaranteed to add some velocity to his fastball. He complements the pitch with an 11-5 curveball and a changeup with good fade for a pitch so early in its development. He attacks hitters with all three of his pitches and is a strike thrower.
