It was a nerve-wracking night in Chicago as the Mets took on the Cubs and nearly gave every fan in Flushing a heart attack in the ninth inning.
After Noah Syndergaard and the Mets bullpen managed to find a way to match Jake Arrieta in a pitchers duel, before the Mets took a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth, Jeurys Familia loaded the bases with no outs and slim 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning. Familia proved to be the equal of Harry Houdini though as he escaped from trouble and sealed the win for the Amazins.
And now for your video highlights!
In the bottom of the fourth, Michael Conforto made great throw to catch Jake Arrieta at home plate. The umpire somehow didn’t see the tag, though, and the Mets had to go to the replay booth to get validation that Conforto’s throw had indeed been on time.
Curtis Granderson plated Jose Reyes with a sac fly in the sixth to draw the Mets even with the Cubs. You can view it here.
Former CSI star William Petersen sang “Take me out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch. MLB apparently doesn’t know how to spell his name.
What at first appeared to be a double play in the ninth was overturned on review, and Neil Walker was called safe.
Later in the inning, Rene Rivera put the Mets ahead with an RBI single.
Jeurys Familia made things dramatic, but he managed to seal the deal as he’s done all season!
And that’s all folks! Mets win!
