The Cubs defeated the Mets today by a final score of 6-0. Bartolo Colon gave up two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and the Mets trailed the Cubs the rest of the way. Colon lasted into the fifth inning before exiting, giving up six earned runs and not looking very good in the process.
Kyle Hendricks started for the Cubs, and while he kept the Mets at bay, it wasn’t for lack of Met hits. They clustered seven hits against him, but none of those baserunners scored. The Mets came closest to scoring—before Wilmer Flores hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth—in the fourth inning, when James Loney was thrown out trying to score from second on a Kelly Johnson single.
