Steven Matz threw six innings of shutout ball and the bullpen relay team of Hansel Robles, Addison Reed, and Jeurys Familia nailed down the series victory as the Mets won this afternoon over the Marlins, 3-0. Matz (8-6) struck out six while scattering four hits and two walks.
Jose Reyes ripped a two-out triple in the third to drive home Michael Conforto—who himself went 2-for-2 alongside a tremendous diving catch (above) in his first career start in center. Yoenis Cespedes and James Loney each added RBI singles in the eighth for insurance.
With the win, the Mets climb within a half-game of Miami for the second NL Wild Card spot. They return home on Monday, where they will send Noah Syndergaard to face off with the Cardinals.
