Monday Morning Mets Mind Boggler: Mike Piazza’s backup catchers

Can you name every one of Mike Piazza’s backup catchers on the Mets?

Mike Piazza #31

Yesterday, Mike Piazza was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Piazza joined Tom Seaver as the only two players to go into the Hall as a Met. For this week’s Mind Boggler, we’re asking you to name every one of Piazza’s backup catchers during his time in New York.

Piazza was, of course, one of the greatest players in Mets history. Among all players with at least 1,000 bats as a Met, Piazza ranks third with a 134 wRC+ on the strength of a .296/.373/.542 batting line. From 1998 to 2005, Piazza averaged an impressive 29 home runs, 86 RBIs, 69 runs scored, 25 doubles, and 3.6 fWAR per year, which is particularly remarkable production from a catcher.

To qualify for this list, the player needed to play at least one inning behind the plate from the time Piazza debuted with the Mets on May 23, 1998, through the 2005 season.

You’ll have four minutes for this quiz. Good luck, and remember to post your time and score in the comments!
