The New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins today by a score of 4-2, taking the series win. Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and went seven innings, striking out seven, walking two, and giving up two absolute bombs to Giancarlo Stanton. Thankfully, no one was on base for either home run.
Stanton’s theatrics represented the only offense for the Marlins, but he wasn’t the only player with two dingers. Wilmer Flores, the Mets’ former everyday third baseman, started today against left-hander Justin Nicolino and hit two solo home runs of his own. Jose Reyes, the man who is likely taking the third base job from Flores, hit two doubles, and Curtis Granderson singled in two runs.
Jeurys Familia closed the game out with his 30th save of the year, remaining perfect in save opportunities.
