The Mets lost to the Nationals by a 6-1 score, as Logan Verrett and Max Scherzer did what you’d expect them to do. Verrett gave up just four hits in six-and-two-thirds innings, but he walked five and gave up five runs. Scherzer struck out nine, walked two, and gave up just one run in seven innings.
And Daniel Murphy, in the midst of his career year, went 3-for-4 with a home run and drove in four of the Nationals’ six runs. That home run came against Antonio Bastardo, who has had a miserable past several weeks. He’s mostly been a lot better than this in his major league career, but he’s been nothing short of awful lately.
