Final score: Diamondbacks 3, Mets 2—One game over .500

The Mets managed to tie the game in the ninth but lost anyway.

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Mets Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

After Kelly Johnson hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning, the Mets lost to the Diamondbacks 3-2 in twelve innings tonight at Citi Field. The Mets’ offense had been shut out for eight innings, mostly by Robbie Ray, and given up two runs before Johnson hit a two-run home run.

Bartolo Colon gave up the lone run of his start on a Paul Goldschmidt single in the third inning. He allowed several other baserunners, and a few of them got into scoring position, but didn’t allow any other runs. Addison Reed gave up a leadoff double to Jean Segura in the eighth, and he scored on a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

But after Johnson tied the game, the Mets failed to score again, and Jerry Blevins gave up a solo home run in the top of the twelfth. That proved to be the difference.

Full recap to follow.
