Meet the Mets

On the day before Pride Night at Citi Field, there was little to be proud of as the Mets lost their fourth straight game, this time to the Padres. Logan Verrett started the dismal affair and was finished after 2.2 innings of something resembling pitching and eight earned runs. The Mets’ bullpen was sensational, but the hole was too much for the offense to climb out of. The game was so dispiriting that fans apparently began chanting for a rain out in the early innings.

Around the NL East

The Braves managed to beat the Nationals. They also got the bad news that outfielder Mallex Smith may not return to the team this season after breaking his thumb in mid June.

Reports also emerged that the Nationals’ Bryce Harper has been playing with a serious shoulder injury for the last two months.

Phillies pitcher Jake Thompson had the rare pleasure of striking out four batters in one inning last night.

The Marlins lost to the White Sox as part of their continued efforts to bait Mets fans into thinking we still have a shot at the second wild card.

Around MLB

Alex Rodriguez ended his Yankees career, and possibly baseball career in general, last night in the Bronx.

It was not all cheers and good times though, as Yankees manager was booed mercilessly by Yankee fans, who felt he had dealt unfairly with A-Rod during his final week with the team.

Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday has landed on the DL with a broken thumb.

Yasiel Puig has been having a good time in Triple-A. Possibly too good of a time.
