The Mets were unable to extend their win streak to three games, dropping the series opener to the Diamondbacks 10-6 at Chase Field on Monday night. Bartolo Colon started for the Mets, and had three unearned runs score against him in the bottom of the first. Despite the three runs being unearned—due to a T.J. Rivera error—Colon did not look great tonight, giving up hard contact consistently.
The Mets had no trouble getting their own runners on, but knocking them in was another story. The Mets had seven baserunners over the first three innings, but only one managed to score.
From there, the song remained the same. The Mets had a lot of chances to score runs, but they fell short time and time again. The combination of Colon being so off, control-wise, and being in hitter’s park just proved too deadly tonight in the desert.
