Yoenis Cespedes was a welcome addition to the lineup Saturday when he slugged two home runs to lead the Mets to a 9-5 victory. He kick-started the offense in the first with an RBI double and upped the ante from there. He finished the day going 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Alejandro De Aza had a blast of his own that helped give the Mets a cushion in the sixth. The game was 3-2 and after Justin Ruggiano singled home a run, De Aza hit a three-run home run to put the Mets up 8-2.

Everyone in the starting lineup was productive with only Bartolo Colon not collecting a hit against the Giants.

Colon’s bat was not needed but his pitching was effective. He worked out of a big jam in the second and again in the fifth when both Jose Reyes and Wilmer Flores allowed runners to reach base on infield hits in a one-run ballgame. Colon finished the day pitching 6.1 innings, and despite allowing nine hits he only gave up two runs.

Josh Smoker was good in his second major league appearance but Hansel Robles continued his recent troubles, and Addison Reed could not pick him up by allowing the inherited runners to score. Reed also had a hiccup in the ninth but a double play ended the game and the Mets got a victory they desperately needed.
