Bartolo Colon had it all working as the Mets beat the Phillies 9-4. Phillies’ starter Adam Morgan was the unfortunate starter in 2015 when the Mets hit eight home runs in one game Philadelphia, and today both Jose Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera greeted him with home runs to start his night tonight.
After the Phillies cut into the lead in the top of the fifth, Colon lead the charge in the bottom of the inning when he picked up the first hit of a two-hit day. Some bad baserunning on Colon’s part almost cost the Mets a run, but Wilmer Flores brought all runners home with the bases loaded when he hit a shot to left for a grand slam.
One inning later Cabrera added another home run to give the Mets a total of four home runs in this game. Not quite the eight from 2015 but still a good offensive output.
Colon’s final numbers belie how good he was early on. He fell apart in the eighth, but he had only given up one run to that point and when the game was already out of hand is when the Phillies added three more runs.
Hansel Robles picked up Colon and had an encouraging performance, but Sean Gilmartin struggled with a blister so Terry Collins was forced to bring in Jeurys Familia. Familia was Familia and the Mets start the homestand with a win.
