The Mets defeated the Phillies by the score of 12-1 tonight at Citi Field. Noah Syndergaard gave up a solo home run in the top of the third inning to Freddy Galvis and then was nearly perfect for the rest of the night. He went seven innings, striking out seven, walking two, and giving up only two hits.
The Mets would’ve been fine with just Asdrubal Cabrera’s two-run home run in the third, but they didn’t stop there. A three-run shot by Yoenis Cespedes, a two-run double by Alejandro de Aza, a grand slam by Kelly Johnson, and a Neil Walker solo shot put the Mets up by eleven runs, which proved to be more than enough.
With this win, the Mets have split or won their last three series and, with the Cardinals losing tonight, the Mets are now two and a half games back of the second Wild Card spot. There’s still a lot of baseball to play, but things certainly are looking better for the Mets than they did last week at this time.
