After a dispiriting opening to the Subway Series, the Mets roared back behind a dominant performance from Jacob deGrom to win 7-1 on Tuesday. A force on the mound and at the plate, deGrom made sure there would be no chance of a sweep in this series.
On a night when six different Mets collected an RBI there was little sign of the team’s long-documented struggles at knocking in runs. The game also featured the Mets debut of Jay Bruce and the return of Jon Niese.
There were plenty of highlights, so let’s get right to them!
Continuing the Mets’ celebrity-filled week, Judd Apatow threw out the first pitch.
Jay Bruce received a warm welcome from the fans as he came up to bat for the first time.
Jacob deGrom was the hero of the night, pitching seven dominant innings and also collecting two hits and two runs scored.
A fan made a great barehanded grab in the first inning, and didn’t even lose his yarmulke.
After the game, Neil Walker tried to explain his improved offensive output.
Terry Collins was extremely pleased with the team’s performance.
And that’s all for this one! Mets win 7-1.
