The Mets beat the Marlins tonight by a score of 12-1 in Miami. The Mets flashed power, both with the bats and their ace’s arm, and made short work of Tom Koehler and the Fish.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Jay Bruce launched a two-run home run in the second inning that landed in the upper deck at Marlins Park. The next inning, Yoenis Cespedes hit an absolute bomb, hitting the back layer of the eyesore that is the Home Run Sculpture in left-center field.
That was more than enough for Noah Syndergaard, who struck out eight and walked none over six innings of work. His strep throat appears to be a thing of the past, with very little, if any, residual affects on his game tonight.
In the eighth inning, Curtis Granderson and Lucas Duda drove in an additional 5 runs, putting the game nicely out of touch. In the ninth, the team poured on an additional three runs on a ground out, a double, and a sacrifice fly.
Full recap to follow.
